Overview
Sowerby Bridge Cricket Club is a vital part of its local community — a place where sport, friendship, and community spirit thrive. To reduce its energy costs and carbon footprint, the club partnered with Novus Energy to install a solar system tailored to their needs.

At Novus Energy, we’re passionate about helping local organisations cut costs and carbon emissions—so we were proud to work with Sowerby Bridge Cricket Club to bring clean, renewable energy to their facilities.
This community-focused project is a fantastic example of how solar energy can support grassroots sport and help clubs reinvest in what matters most: their players, members, and future generations.
The Solution
Novus Energy designed and installed a 6.4 kW solar panel system, complete with a battery to maximise energy storage and usage. In total, 16 panels were installed on-site to capture the sun’s energy and reduce reliance on the grid.
This 6.4 kW system was designed to meet the club’s energy needs while storing excess power for use during peak times—maximising savings and self-sufficiency.
Key Stats:
- ✅ System Size: 6.4 kW
- ✅ Panels Installed: 16 + battery
- ✅ Estimated Annual Generation: 5,423 kWh
- ✅ Estimated Lifetime Bill Savings: £32,961
- ✅ CO₂ Avoided per Year: 1 tonne
Environmental Impact Over the System’s Lifetime:
- 🌳 Equivalent to planting 260 trees
- ✈️ Offsets 29 long-haul flights
- 🚗 Prevents 40,479 km of car travel

The Outcome
With their new solar system in place, Sowerby Bridge Cricket Club is now generating clean, renewable energy while significantly cutting their electricity costs. The addition of a battery means they can store excess solar power for use during cloudy days or evening events — improving self-sufficiency and savings.
This installation not only supports the club financially, but it also aligns with their goal of being a more sustainable and environmentally conscious organisation.
Why It Matters
Rising energy costs are hitting all sectors—but for community clubs, every pound counts. By switching to solar, Sowerby Bridge Cricket Club has taken a major step toward energy independence, long-term savings, and a more sustainable future.
Plus, they’ve set an inspiring example for other sports clubs and leisure centres across the UK.
