Solar Panels Installation for Housing Associations – Case Study

Solar Panels Installation: A Case Study in the county of Conwy in North Wales. Novus Energy were delighted to work alongside Cartrefi Conwy – a ‘Registered Social Landlord’ with over 4,000 properties.

As part of their mission to reduce emissions and bills for their tenants, they were firstly looking to utilise solar power on a select number of properties. Secondly, they were interested in battery storage, allowing for zero carbon energy generation and the ability to use this energy at periods most convenient to the occupants.

Following on from an on-site survey and initial assessment, it was determined that all 6 of the properties would benefit from a full 4kw of solar. Additionally, this could potentially provide over 100% of the annual electricity requirements of the houses.

Secondly, when combined with correctly sized battery storage, this energy would be stored when not being used. This can then be harnessed by the occupants at night-time.

Subsequently, in low light months like December and January, these batteries can even draw from the grid at off peak, cheaper, times (such as the middle of the night). This stored electricity can then be used throughout the day, further driving down energy bills.

Cumulatively, the 6 installations will save over 5 tonnes of carbon every year. This amounts to over 800kg of carbon being avoided by each property annually. Over the lifetime of the systems, this equates to over 101 tonnes of carbon will be saved.

Over the lifetime of the systems (which we calculate as 20 years) these carbon savings equate to:

  • 960 trees planted
  • 108 long haul flights avoided
  • 149,000/93,300 miles driven in a car

System Summary:

Solar Panels Used: Trina 390W All Black Tier 1 Panels

Inverter Used: Solax X-1

Batteries Used: Solax Triple Power 5.8kWh Battery x 1

Customer Testimonial:

“We felt so safe and comfortable with the chaps in our house. They covered my flooring and were so polite. I’ve done a full load of drying today on solar power only! I’m so pleased to see what summer brings.”

“The lads even fixed our kitchen unit for us, nothing was a job too small and they were so quick.”

“I cannot thank you enough for the communication and updates. The team were fantastic and explained to my son everything we need to know as technology really scares me and my wife, thank you so much. We are really happy, they look great.”

“Drew and the lads were a breath of fresh air. My house ran completely off solar this morning, no idea how happy that made us!”
