How Do Solar Panels Work?
Solar panels, also known as photovoltaic (PV) panels, harness the energy from daylight to generate electricity. These PV cells are usually installed on your roof to capture as much daylight as possible throughout the day.
The panels work by converting daylight into direct current (DC) electricity. This DC electricity is then passed through an inverter, which converts it into alternating current (AC) electricity—the type of power used by most household appliances. This AC electricity can power everything from your lights to your kitchen appliances, and any surplus energy can be sent back to the National Grid. If you’re on a Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) tariff with your energy provider, you’ll be paid for any excess electricity you generate but don’t use. Our team of experts can help you choose the best tariff to maximise your benefits.
